Dr. Carmel Dyer Speaks at Our Family Educational Forum

by Dr. Mary Kenan, Clinical Director

On May 5, Amazing Place was honored to hear Dr. Carmel Bitondo Dyer offer, "Tips from a Geriatrician for Patients and Caregivers" at our second Family Educational Forum of 2011. Dr. Dyer is the Roy M. and Phyllis Gough Huffington Chair in Gerontology and Director of the Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her interactive talk addressed the importance of exercise for people of all ages as a component of weight management, medication metabolism, and the prevention of falls, depression, and cognitive disorders. "Say no to drugs" led her introduction to the common occurrences of overmedication, medication interactions, and inappropriate prescribing practices as causes or contributors to medical problems and injury among older adults.
