Care Navigation is Key to Finding Next Step Advice

With the many unanswered questions that come with a dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment diagnosis, families facing new challenges can be overwhelmed, confused and feeling helpless.  Finding answers and next step advice to support a clinical diagnosis and treatment can be tricky because everyone’s experience is so unique.

How to Navigate the Dementia Journey

Lauren Bradley, LCSW, the Amazing Place Care Navigator, says, “Many caregivers are unsure of what is needed when facing a dementia diagnosis. We can help them identify issues, prioritize challenges and connect them with the right help at the right time. We are a personal go-to resource and are on hand through every stage of the disease via phone, text or e-mail.”

For some, Care Navigation starts with concrete education or resources on learning more about dementia itself, the basics of caregiving, and what’s available in the community. Often check-in calls center on processing grief, accepting feelings around caregiving, and reducing caregiver stress and frustration, including communication strategies surrounding dementia behaviors.

“No matter where someone is in the dementia journey, they can reach out to us and we will listen to their unique story and help them explore avenues to help them,” Lauren says. ”We want everyone we talk to know that help is as close as picking up their phone.”

Questions that Amazing Place helps navigate:

Lauren emphasizes, “Every question I get is valid. No two answers are alike because every situation is different. The important thing is to reach out and get help.”
