TESTIMONIALS

When my sister was diagnosed, I realized I needed to know more about dementia so I signed up for the virtual Savvy class. It really helped me understand the phases of dementia, and gave me tools I’ll need as a caregiver. Amazing Place went a step further and came and evaluated my sister and has provided more resources through their Faith Care Connection program. The Savvy class instructor shared her personal experiences and made me more comfortable in opening up. Knowing others who are going through similar challenges really helps. When things get hard, I know now that I have someplace to turn and they’ll help me through it. There are many resources out there, but most are geared toward the patient. Amazing Place has my back as a caregiver. They help me figure out what I need to take care of my sister and make sure I am taking care of myself as well.

I am an educator and truly believe in life-long learning, as do my children. When my husband Aaron was diagnosed, my kids jumped in and found Amazing Place. As a family, we took the four-session Savvy class which made us more comfortable in the roles and strategies we all would need to play in caring for their dad. I learned so much that I signed up for the Savvy Advanced program. Not only did the class help me identify the stages my husband was going through but it taught me how to take care of myself. That included identifying a circle of friends for support because this is a journey you can not do alone. What I’ve learned from Amazing Place is that you need to be proactive in finding the tools you need. That’s why I’m going to continue learning—right now I’m taking the Aging Solo class with my sister-in-law and I’m thrilled that I’ve qualified to be in the upcoming Star-C caregiver program. Everyone talks about dementia, but Amazing Place actually empowers you.

Thank you very much to the Amazing Place and Sharon Cantrell for the Advanced Savvy Caregiver program. I attended it online, and learned useful strategies for me and my friends whose loved ones are suffering from dementia. It was also useful to share experiences with other caregivers, so that we can help each other. I encourage others who are looking for guidance or an understanding voice to reach out to them.
