For those supporting someone with cognitive decline, Amazing Place provides education, support groups, education, counseling, and next step advice at little to no cost. We have programs in English and Spanish.

Interested in brain health and dementia prevention

45% percent of dementia cases can be prevented by lifestyle changes.  Our experts offer no cost presentations and training on brain health, memory preservation and the aging journey.

Amazing Place West offers the same excellent services and support the organization has provided to our community for more than two decades.
In addition to our Day Program for those with mild to moderate dementia, our new campus in Katy hosts caregiver classes, support groups and gatherings, and for those interested in dementia prevention, memory preservation and aging well, we offer brain health education presentations, classes and workshops.

Dr. Yu and Her Daughter Share a Passion to Care for Those Coping with Dementia

Caring for others with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other diagnoses associated with aging is often a multi-generational affair. Such is certainly the case with Dr. Melissa Yu, the Clinical Operations Director of Baylor College of Medicine’s Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders Center and an Amazing Place referring physician, and her daughter Marguerite who is one of our 2022 STARS summer volunteers. Marguerite is a sophomore in college and is anticipating a career in the medical field, with many specialties from which to choose.

It’s Better to Be Kind Than Correct

Amazing Place recently invited Renée Brown Harmon, M.D., nationally recognized author of Surfing the Waves of Alzheimer’s, Principles of Caregiving that Kept Me Upright, to lead a caregiver workshop for more than 60 individuals in Houston, Texas. Dr. Harmon’s husband, Harvey, also a physician, was diagnosed at age 50 with Alzheimer’s, turning their lives completely upside down. She and her husband were in family practice together and had two teenage daughters at the time of his diagnosis.
